Known for practicing one of the state’s oldest traditional art forms called Oggu Katha, Chukka Sattaiah had been performing since he was 14 and learned the art form from his father.

Oggu Katha is a part of Telangana’s folklore and is a traditional style of narration which involves a song and dance performance with artists dressing up for better story-telling.

He won several awards, received accolades from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and former presidents Abdul Kalam and Pranab Mukherjee. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao also recognized his efforts.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his deep condolences over the death of Sri Chukka Sathaiah. Stating that Sathaiah became a proud artiste for the entire world, KCR said that his death has created a big void.
