Hyderabad : Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the TRS Government of cheating the weavers' community while completely neglecting the handloom sector in the State.

Speaking at the launch event of TPCC Weavers' Cell at Indira Bhavan on Thursday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government did not fulfil the promises that it made with the weavers' community. He said weavers were made to suffer for the last three-and-a-half years and now as an eye wash, Industries Minister K. Tarakarama Rao was making some misleading statements. He said both KTR and his father and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao were good at making tall claims, but are zero in implementation.

Uttam Kumar Reddy asked KTR as to what happened to his announcement of wearing handlooms at least once in a week. He said both KCR and KTR were misleading the poor weavers. Similarly, he said that the BJP Government at the Centre was also not serious on the welfare of weavers and handloom sector. He said that the handloom sector in Telangana was badly hit due to the imposition of Goods and Services Tax (GST). He said KCR, who praised Prime Minister Prime Minister for all his decisions, has failed to get GST exemption for handloom sector or any other relief for the weavers.

Stating that the previous Congress regime had done a lot for the development of handloom sector and welfare of weavers, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that party would resolve the problems being faced by weavers after coming to power in 2019. He also assured that due political importance would be given to Padmashalis in the Congress party.

Uttam Kumar Reddy advised the newly constituted Weavers' Cell to take the failures of TRS Government among all weavers across the Telangana State.

Earlier, senior leader Gudur Srinivas took charge as the chairman of TPCC Weavers' Cell in the presence of TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other leaders.
