Hyderabad (Telangana) : Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday blamed the previous government for the menace of land mafias in the state.

Expressing disappointment over an increasing number of threats from land mafias, the Chief Minister said in the assembly, "If we take a look at the land survey, we find differences between the information on paper and the physical inspection of land. The past government(YSR Congress Party) created a lot of confusion on paper which benefited many land mafias and land grabbers."

Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Party, raised concern on the encroachment of temple lands and said, "Out of the 86,000 acres land of temples, 56,000 acres have encroached and 16,000 have already been registered in names of individuals.

Responding to this, Chandrashekhar Rao said that the committee formed to formulate the guidelines for regularisation of endowment and temple lands in 2016 will look into the matter.

"All the committees are functioning. If such irregularities are found, we will give orders to look into the lands which were encroached. We are ready to do a thorough survey. If anyone gives us representation, I will endorse it," he said.
