Jagtial: In a bizarre incident, a 22-year-old woman, who was kept in chain, was rescued by the locals in Jagtial on Wednesday. However, her family members claimed that she was mentally unsound.

The police on Thursday said Chityala Geetha, a resident of Vani Nagar area, was found crying in front of her house with her hands tied with an iron chain in the evening.

Geetha informed her neighbours that she was made to do all household chores by her brothers and sisters-in-law and tormenting her for some time. When she tried to run away from home unable to bear their torture, they tied her hands with an iron chain behind her back and locked it, the police quoted Geetha as saying.

She lost her father a few years ago and was living with her brothers – Chityala Narayana, Ramesh and Srinivas – since then. Geetha who completed her graduation in Arts worked as a teacher in a private school for some time.

She alleged that her sisters-in-law Manasa, Latha and Radha had been ill-treating her for the last few years and forcing her to do all household work including bathing their children, washing their clothes etc.

The neighbours with the help of local municipal councillor Guggilla Harish took her to Jagtial police station, where her chains were removed. The police summoned her brothers and questioned them.
