Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has issued notices to 92 engineering colleges in and around Hyderabad city to explain the charges of submitting forged documents to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to get recognition for running the colleges. It also issued notices to AICTE and both the Central and State governments.

The division bench comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice M Ganga Rao issued these notices, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation petition filed by V Praveen, Secretary of Hyderabad-based NGO, Quality Foundation seeking investigation into this affair.

The petitioner alleged that although he had submitted all relevant proofs as demanded by the AICTE, it was not acting against the colleges that resorted to these fraudulent methods.

The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that these colleges had even submitted false property documents, false plans of buildings, etc and secured recognition from the regulatory body.

The bench issued notices to the Respondents, including the 92 engineering colleges directing them to file counter affidavits within four weeks and adjourned the case.
