Hyderabad: Senior officials from the State Forest and Revenue Departments have met here on Monday and finalised an action plan to put an end to the decades-old tussle between the two departments over the extent of the forest lands that exist in the State.

Attended by the Joint Collectors and the Forest Department officials of all the districts in the State, the meeting chalked out an action plan to conduct a survey and identify the forest lands and make entries during the ongoing special drive for purification and updating of land records in the State.

As part of the move, identification of the total extent of the forest land, extent of encroached land and those under dispute will also be taken up during the survey. Also, entries of forest lands in the land records of the Revenue department will be updated. For this, the officials have finalised a specific format to make entries of the forest department.

Field staff engaged in the survey will be given necessary guidelines on how to carry out the survey and bring clarity to the forest land, shown in the revenue records as patta lands and wastelands.

The officials have also discussed the issue that in several districts, forest lands had been diverted for various needs and they will be updated. Further, a re-survey will be conducted where the process of the land survey has been completed as part of the land purification drive for the identification of the forest lands at the village and mandal levels.

That apart, steps will be taken to record the lands given in lieu of the forest lands diverted for different projects under Compensatory Afforestation Programme (CAP).
Extent of the reserved forest, notified forest, all disputes related to the forest lands will be recorded in the revenue land records

Land Records Purification and Updating Project Director Karuna said that staff from the revenue and defence departments would extend their support to the initiative.
State Principal Chief Conservator of Forests P K Jha and Officer on Special Duty at CMO Priyanka Varghese were among the other officials were present.
