Transport Minister Mahender Reddy said that the State Government was taking several measures to strengthen the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
Hyderabad : Transport Minister Mahender Reddy said that the State Government was taking several measures to strengthen the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
Replying to a question raised by TRS MLA A. Jeevan Reddy and others during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, the minister said that the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department has released Rs. 336.40 crore to reimburse the losses sustained by the RTC on Hyderabad city operations through the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the financial year 2015-16. To ease the burden of Revised Pay Scales 2013, a net amount of Rs. 428.08 crore was given by the government as assistance to corporation during the years 2015 and 2016.
The minister also informed that the state government released the balance of concessions for the years 2013-14 and 2014-15 by way of Government Guaranteed loan during the year 2015-16 to a tune of Rs. 500 crore which eased the working capital shortage. The government also released the balance of concessions for the year 2015-16 and part amount for 2016-17 by way of Government Guaranteed loan during the year 2017-18 to a tune of Rs. 350 crore.
Further, the government has provided an amount of Rs. 520 crore towards total reimbursement of Bus Pass concessions for the year 2017-18 and released an amount of Rs. 130 crore. During the year 2015-16 and 2016-17, government has released an amount of Rs. 39.93 crore and Rs. 10 crore respectively for purchase of buses, he said.
Mahender Reddy informed that government has provided Rs. 140 crore towards purchase of buses for the year 2017-18 to replace higher end buses for better commuter satisfaction and released Rs. 35 crore.
The minister also said that the government proposes to establish mini theaters in bus stations and petrol bunks in places of RTC.
After the formation of Telangana, the RTC has introduced a total of 1507 various types of new buses which includes Garuda Plus - 22, Garuda - 11, Rajadhani AC - 107, Super Luxury - 117, Mini AC Vajra - 60, Mini Non-AC - 50, City Low Floor Metro Luxury AC - 80, City Metro Express - 4, Metro Deluxe - 45 and City Ordinary - 5. This was done as part of replacement of old aged buses and augmentation on existing routes and introduction of new buses on long distance routes covering Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and Chattisgarh.
A balance of 197 new buses procured under 2016-17 would be deployed within three months. The minister said for the year 2017-18, it is proposed to procure 1175 various types of buses.
The minister appealed to all legislators to emulate Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary in travelling in RTC bus at least once in a month.
