Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday declared in the Telangana Assembly that 1,000 officers from the agriculture department will be sent to Israel to get trained in farming techniques that can be replicated in the state.

Israel is popular for the use of farming techniques ensuring high agriculture yield using less water.

KCR stated that officers will be sent in batches to study micro-irrigation technique, crops that be grown in Telangana to ensure high productivity.

The decision is a part of the government’s plan to create crop colonies in order to perform farming in a planned manner, which according to the Chief Minister would help the government have better data.

The opposition, however, slammed this decision calling it a wastage of money when the farmers are in need of farm loan waivers and better Minimum Support Price.
