Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was playing ‘carrot and stick’ game on Muslim reservation issue for political mileage and it was exposed once again, Leader of the Opposition in the Council Md Ali Shabbir said on Thursday.

Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict on the quota issue of Rajasthan State that all quotas for socially and economically backward classes should not cross the 50 per cent barrier at any cost, Shabbir said that the ‘deception’ of the TRS government was exposed again.

“It is clear that Chandrashekar Rao had thrown Muslim quota carrot for getting votes during the last general elections and the GHMC polls,” Shabbir said, adding that if the TRS chief was sincere to promote the Muslim community, he should issue a GO immediately for implementation of 12 per cent reservation for Muslims as an Act had been passed in both the Houses of the Legislature.

He said the previous Congress government was sincere in providing five per cent quota for socially and economically Backward Muslims and after the Supreme Court’s intervention, it had reduced it to 4 per cent which was implemented in education and jobs in the then Andhra Pradesh benefiting thousands of Muslim youth.

Shabbir Ali asked how Chandrashekar Rao can provide 12 per cent reservation to the Muslim community when Prime Minister cannot implement reservation for more than 50 per cent in the BJP-ruled States.
