Hyderabad: Farmers in North Telangana districts will get irrigation water in the ensuing Rabi season. With River Godavari receiving copious inflows this year, the State government on Thursday decided to release water from the SRSP (Sri Ram Sagar Project ) for the irrigation needs in the old Karimnagar , Warangal, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Khammam districts.

State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao held a review meeting on the arrangements made to release water from the SRSP with the officials here. He instructed the engineers of the Irrigation Department to ensure the supply of water to 6.10 lakh acres from December.

Under the action plan, water would be released to Upper Manair Dam covering 4 lakh acres and Lower Manair Dam to bring 1.60 lakh acres under irrigation and 50,000 acres would be covered under the Saraswathi canal.

The officials informed the Minister that 60 TMC of water was available in the SRSP project. Harish said he would review the progress in the arrangements to release water every fortnight.
