Hyderabad: A BJP delegation on Saturday called on the State Governor E S L Narasimhan and sought his immediate intervention to protect the interests of farmers in several mandals in Karimnagar, Jagityala, and Rajanna-Siricilla districts.
The delegation led by the party’s national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and BJP Kisan Morcha national general secretary P Sugunakar Rao and the morcha state president Goli Madhsudhan Reddy have met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention.
The BJP leaders alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is not delivering on his electoral promise to provide irrigation waters to about 60,000 acres under Choppadandi Assembly constituency.
The lands are located under Choppadandi, Ramadugu, Gangadhara, Mallyala, Kodimyala and Boinapally mandals of Karimnagar, Jagityala and Rajanna-Sircilla Districts. The ruling party government had promised to provide water from the Sripada Yellampally Project (SYP).
Time for the Rabi season to irrigate the crops is fast coming to an end. But, the State government failed to supply water to lands as promised, they said. This is resulting in farmers of Choppadandi segment losing their second crop and incurring financial loss. And, sought the intervention of the Governor, to direct the government to expedite the steps to supply water and safeguard the interests of the farmers, they asked in the memorandum.
Similarly, they pointed out that pilgrims visiting the prominent Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy temple in North Telangana have been facing difficulties due to the shortage of water. The BJP delegation told the Governor that people and pilgrims have been demanding to construct a reservoir over the hillock and fill with Godavari river water. However, no action has come from the government so far and requested Narasimhan to direct the government to take necessary steps to address the issue immediately.
Also, raising the issue of the land oustees of Mid Manair Dam(MMD), the delegation said that the project displaced people have not received the compensation to their lands and structures for last 20 years. The State government made promised to address the issue but till date, the same has not complied as promised, they pointed out.
The people of submerged villagers have been facing hardship for their rehabilitation and resettlement as R&R package has not been implemented. The delegation sought the intervention of the Governor for immediate implementation of the R&R package to the MMD project displaced people.
