Hyderabad: There are a total of 9,389 lane kilometers of BT roads in the city and keeping in view the visit of Ivanka Trump and Global Entrepreneur Summit (GES) 2017, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have taken up re-carpeting of 100 roads in the city.

With just 9 days left for the GES summit in the city, officials from GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), traffic police and other department have been working road the clock to give a new look to the city.

The GHMC has sanctioned Rs 4,563 lakh for the re-carpeting of 100 roads in the city which are leading to HICC and on the routes where Ivanka Trump would visit. Out of 100 roads work on seven has been completed and the work on 59 roads is under progress but the work on other 34 roads is yet to be taken up. Apart from re-carpeting of roads Rs 313 lakh has been sanctioned for lane making.

When asked about the same, senior GHMC officials refused to comment on the issue. However, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao made it clear that the road repairs are not just for Ivanka Trump. “We have 10K run on November 26, 2017, then the GES. It was a part of our normal work and we started the work after monsoon. After GES, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has also announced World Telugu Conference from December 15 to 19 ”, he added.

Meanwhile, due to the rains the roads which are laid long back got damaged and 7.89 lakh square metres of road area is identified which needed special repairs for minimising the inconvenience to the citizens. These repairs cost Rs 77.79 crore. During the month of July and August 2017, road repair works were taken up at 148 locations with a cost of Rs 19.51 crore and 13 chronic and major water logging points which require remodeling of drains will be taken up before next monsoon.
