Bhadrachalam: A devotee from Andhra Pradesh, Sai Lakshmi, suffered head injuries, when a 1.5-kg lion shaped sculpture, part of Sitaramachandra Swamy temple structure, broke loose and fell on her on Sunday while she was performing puja.

The temple Assistant Executive Officer, Shravan Kumar, shifted her to the Area Hospital where the hospital staff stitched the injury, as it required two stitches. Later she was discharged, who returned her residence in Gampalagudem.  

It may be recalled that on September 23 this year a huge stone, part of the temple’s Rajagopuram, fell off. But none was injured then as there was no one at the temple when the incident occurred. The region was fenced and cordoned off.

After 53 days, second incident happened in the temple. The temple staff was wondered at the lion-shaped cement image fell off the temple. They predict that the lion shaped image might broken loose when the temple was done a coat of colours and electrification for the recent celebrations at the temple.

Temple executive officer K Prabhakara Srinivas admitted that a small cement lion shaped object fell off from the temple structure injuring one of the devotees.
