Hyderabad: The State government-appointed sub-committee headed by Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU) Vice-Chancellor Prof S V Satyanarayana will soon submit its recommendations on implementing Telugu as a compulsory subject from class 1 to 10 as well as in the two-year intermediate course in all schools and junior colleges in
Telangana.

The committee which met here on Sunday held extensive discussions on how the States like Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Karnataka had enacted laws making the study of official languages of their respective States compulsory from class 1 to 10.

The meeting attended by Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) Secretary, Dr A Ashok, members G Kishan, A Satyanarayana Reddy, G Seshukumari, Devulapalli Prabhakar and Suvarna Vinayak discussed various reports submitted to those State governments on the issue. The committee also took into consideration making the study of Telugu a compulsory subject in CBSE, ICSE schools and Intermediate education in the State.

Besides, the sub-committee deliberated on the constitutional provisions related to the implementation of the language and the three-language formula and the research conducted by the NCERT on the implementation of the three-language formula in the country.
They also discussed the national education plans and legislation enacted on the study of languages from 1975 to 2005.
