Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad is now the first airport in the country to install waste recycling machines.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), which operates the airport announced that the two machines installed at strategic locations would crush plastic PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, steel, aluminum cans and plastic bags in an eco-friendly method.

In a statement, GHIAL said that the passengers will be provided with an option to either make a donation or obtain a discount coupon in return for submitting their empty plastic water bottles, bags, metal cans into the crushing machine.

RGIA is one of the busiest airports in the country and receives over 40,000 passengers on a daily basis and has more than 5,000 staff working round the clock in shifts.
