New Delhi: The Union Minister for Steel, Birender Singh here on Thursday discussed the Telangana government's proposal for Bayyaram Steel Plant with the Minister for Industries, K T Rama Rao and a delegation of officials and directed the latter to prepare the project report with experts. The Centre would consider setting up of the unit after a detailed report was placed before it, he said. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had been insisting on setting up of the plant as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. The Centre had constituted a task force to study the feasibility of the same.

Rama Rao explained to the Union Minister that the potential of iron ore was to the tune of 70 million ton in the area. If the Bailadilla area of Chhattisgarh were to be clubbed with Bayyaram, then the steel Plant would have a raw material up to 170 million ton.

Rama Rao sought a 3 million metric tonne capacity integrated steel plant to be set up at Bayyaram. He later told the media that the Union Minister was positive towards the proposal and promised to sort out minor glitches by December end. Rama Rao said he met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to seek her intervention in securing the release of six residents of Sircilla now languishing in jails in the Gulf countries. He said Swaraj promised him that she would take up the issue during her upcoming Abu Dhabi visit.

Later, in his meeting with the Union Minister for Urban Affairs, Rama Rao explained him the progress made in Hyderabad Metro works, construction of double-bedroom houses, Mission Bhagiratha and the efforts of the State government in converting all municipalities into ODF civic bodies. He also explained the progress made in waste management techniques adopted by the State government.
