A trainee pilot R Rasi of Indian Air Force (IAF) had a close shave with death while flying Kiran aircraft when she managed to eject safely in time on Friday as her aircraft began losing altitude and was about to crash at Duddeda village in Siddipet district on Friday.

Hyderabad: A trainee pilot R Rasi of Indian Air Force (IAF) had a close shave with death while flying Kiran aircraft when she managed to eject safely in time on Friday as her aircraft began losing altitude and was about to crash at Duddeda village in Siddipet district on Friday.

The Indian Air Force trainer aircraft took off from Hakimpet Air Force Station and crashed at Duddeda around 2 pm. Rasi sustained minor injuries and was airlifted to Air Force Station (AFS) Hakimpet.

The injured trainee pilot was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad. A Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered to investigate the cause, said a Defence Ministry release.

Two months ago, Aman Pandey, a trainee pilot was injured in a training mission. Every trainee has to undergo 70 hours of flying as part of the basic training programme. Presently, close to 70 cadets are undergoing training at AFS Hakimpet out of whom six are women.
