Khammam: The district president of MBC Association, Pakala Upendar, demanded the government to implement 34 per cent BC reservations equally for its sub-castes in the local bodies. Speaking at a district body meeting with the representatives of the Association here at Manchikanti Bhavan in Khammam on Sunday, Upendar alleged that in BCs, the reservations for A, B, C, D categories were implemented in case of education and employment opportunities. Due to lack of proper implementation of reservations for sub-castes, only few people belonging to five or six castes in BCs were enjoying the political reservations in local bodies.

Of the 112 BC castes that are there present in Telangana, only people from few sub-castes were grabbing the opportunities as Sarpanches, MPTCs, ZPTCs, Municipal Councillors, Corporators. To give opportunity to others, there was a need to implement reservations for sub-castes equally, he observed. Hailing the government’s move of allocating Rs 1,000 crore budget for BC Corporation, he demanded the government to implement reservations for sub-castes, lest a hunger strike would be organised at Dharna Chowk in front of the Collectorate on November 30.

He urged people of all Backward Castes to participate in the hunger strike in large numbers and make it a grand success. Several Association leaders attended the meeting.
