Kothagudem: The joint exercise undertaken by the Revenue and Agriculture Departments to verify the land records is a non-starter in respect of 97 villages. Out of 377 villages in 23 mandals of the district, the verification was done in 173 villages and is under way in 36 villages.

The exercise, kicked off on September 15 this year, is scheduled to end by December-end this year. Going by the slow rate of progress, it is doubtful whether the verification would conclude by the year-end. However, the officials say that the verification of the records has been going on in an impartial way.

The verification work, also known as 1-A survey, was already completed in 173 villages. There are 91.644 survey numbers in all the villages put together. Out of them, lands under 61.182 survey numbers were found clear, while those under 24.462 survey numbers are not found to be cleared. Out of the 6,48,397 acres,

titles of 5,77,162 acres are clear.

In the Agency area, the land survey work is under way in 34 villages each in Charla (74 villages) and Dummugudem (83 villages) mandals.

The land survey has been done in all mandals of Kothagudem division. In Bhadrachalam division, the survey commenced in 107 villages out of 218 villages.

The officials are encountering various problems on account of non-availability of land records for the sale of land prior to 1970. The transaction was not recorded properly. Those who had sold the lands then are now creating hurdles. On account of tribal legislations, the land survey work is getting delayed, especially the LTR Act. The State government is keen on recording the lands locked under court litigation under 1-B register. It is keen to complete the survey of lands categorised as 1-A and1-B to assess the land cultivated and the land not under cultivation to extend input subsidy to the farmers from June next.

Joint Collector M Ramkishan told The Hans India that the survey work would be completed within the time stipulated. He said that 3/4th of the verification has been completed. He exuded confidence that it would be completed by the deadline. He asked farmers to lodge a complaint in his office if there are any discrepancies in the verification.
