Job-seekers flock to HMR station
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Station at Miyapur was flooded by job seekers on Monday. Many people who visited the station in hope of jobs assumed that as the metro rail is being inaugurated there will be several job openings.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Station at Miyapur was flooded by job seekers on Monday. Many people who visited the station in hope of jobs assumed that as the metro rail is being inaugurated there will be several job openings.
A senior official said that many people think that as the metro rail is being inaugurated there would be several jobs. As a matter of fact, the whole system is in place and most of the recruitments have been completed. The official said, “We have been receiving at least 15 people every day for the last 15 days and we politely turn them away.”
Rekha, a resident of Warasiguda went along with her mother to the metro rail corporate office in Begumpet on Monday hoping to get a job but, had top return empty-handed. She said, “I came with a lot of hope but have to return empty handed as the officials did not accept my CV and said that all are busy at the moment. I will make another visit next week.”
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) officials said it was the concessionaire L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited which is recruiting employees for the metro rail, from engineers to technical experts to labourers it is L&T that is recruiting people since 2012. A senior L&T official said even the pilots had to undertake rigorous tests before being taken aboard. Out of 100 plus pilots, 38 of them are women with B tech degrees.
Keeping the nature of work, L&T recruited quite a few retired Indian Railways employees. Officials said, “the Indian Railway engineers have been among the best in the world and quite a few have experience of working on the Konkan Railway, which was touted as the most difficult due to the terrain.”
Presently, more than 22,000 employees are working on the project and recruitments are still underway. An official of HMR said that in 9 out of 10 cases, people with intermediate and degrees in humanities seek jobs while the L&T has jobs for graduation/Diploma/MBA, MCA, B Tech and M Tech graduates within the age limit 18–27 years.
