Hyderabad: Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao on Monday inaugurated the Rapid Frequency Identification Device (RFID) system under Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) on Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Nanakramguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Toll charges will be automatically deducted from the commuters using RFID tag and they will not have to wait at the plaza as the tag will be provided to the vehicle.The RFID system will be operational from Tuesday on pilot basis for road users at Shamshabad and Nanakramguda entry and exit points. Onetime fees of Rs 200 will be charged for RFID tag and the tag is only operational at Shamshabad and Nanakramguda toll plaza.

During the inauguration, Rama Rao said RFID technology had been used all over the country and the vehicles would not have to stop at the toll plaza as the amount would be deducted automatically with the tag on the vehicle.

He said the State government had spent Rs 353 crore for the development of ORR. He said that RFID system would be set up in all toll plazas by December end.

HMDA Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu said the commuters who purchased the RFID tag could use it all over India, commuters will have to pay Rs 200 for the tag and submit registration certificate, driving license and other ID proof. He said when the vehicle passed through the toll gate, the amount will be automatically deducted and would not have to stop at toll plazas.
