Hyderabad: From controlling the crowd to making elaborate arrangements, police personnel and officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) along with the airport authorities left no stone unturned for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the party cadre at the Begumpet Airport, here on Tuesday.

A combined effort and a week’s time, is all that took for the officials in turning the defunct premises to a venue that could accommodate large crowds eliminating every chance of violence or stampede. Around 150 police personnel were stationed right from the entrance of the airport to the actual event venue. Barricades were erected near the stage in purview of the Prime Minister’s security.

Deputy Commissioner of GHMC in Begumpet circle A Shailaja, told The Hans India that the area was fogged for a week to kill any virus that could be present in the atmosphere. Assistant Medical Officer Dr Venkata Ramana said, “We had repaired broken man holes, chased away stray dogs that crept from the openings in the airport walls and also fought snakes that slithered from uncleared bushes in the premises.

It was a hectic programme, but we are glad that it went successful. “It is surprising that almost 40 to 50 tonnes of garbage was cleared from the airport, only in just one week for a Swachh welcome.
