Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has decided to remove the Fair Price Shop dealers who are reluctant to supply subsidised rice for the poor and appoint new dealers in their place.

The State Government has instructed the officials to make alternative arrangments for the supply of the essential commodities to the beneficiaries in places where the FP dealers have not paid the DDs. Since under the pretext of strike some dealers have not paid the DDs and it would hamper the supply of essential commodities in December. On this issue, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has held a review meeting with Minister Etela Rajender and Civil Supplies Commissioner CV Anand at Pragati Bhavan.

The officials informed the CM that of the 14,000 dealers, about 7,000 dealers from 25 districts have paid the DDs and are ready to lift the stocks but the rest have not paid DDs demanding hike in wages and health cards. They are reluctant to supply essential commodities and this may hamper supply in the month of December.

Responding to this, the Chief Minister has instructed the officials to remove the dealers who have not paid the DDs and appoint new dealers in their place and supply commodities to the dealers who have paid the DDs. In places where the dealers have not paid the DDs commodities should be supplied through alternative government channels, the CM said.

“The government is supplying 6 Kgs of rice per Re 1 Kilo per individual with a view to feed them properly. The government is bearing thousands of Crores burden. Dealers are working on commission basis. It is painful that they asking unjust demands and threatening to go on strike. The call for strike has no justified reason. Because of the Dealers’ action, the poor people are on the verge of losing their quota of essential commodities. The government has decided be stern and take a stringent action on the matter. Supply commodities to those dealers who have paid the DDs and remove those who haven’t," the Chief Minister said it no uncertain terms.
