Hyderabad: Mark A Green, Administrator, US Agency for International Development (USAID) member of Ivanka Trump, daughter and advisor to US President Donald Trump team will visit State TB Training and Demonstration Centre (STDC) here on Thursday.

Mark was in Hyderabad as part of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesdayy, Dr Ch Surya Prakash, Joint Director, Tuberculosis (TB), said that Mark would visit the STDC lab facilities, interact with three TB survivors and also with the corporate business sector representatives since TB control was high on the agenda for both Indian and US Governments.

“With the support of USAID many laboratories were established across India. Among these, one such laboratory was started as a Line Probe Assay (LPA) lab in Hyderabad,” he said. Because of this lab, the TB department had been diagnosing the multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) free of cost, he said and added that after that, it became easy to the doctors to prescribe drugs to the patients. Furthermore, Dr Ch Surya Prakash said before establishing the LPA lab, it took around five days to confirm whether it was TB or not. With the lab, we were delivering the TB report in 48 hours.

Moreover, he said that the diagnostic equipment of the Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CB NAAT) gives the TB report within two hours. Rajeshwar Tiwari, Special Chief Secretary, Katherine B Hadda, Consulate General, US, Karuna Vakati, Commissioner, Health Department and Mission Director (NHM), Dr Sunil Khaparde, Deputy Director General (DDG), RNTCP, Government of India, will also be visiting the lab.
