Hyderabad: Exhorting the Muslims to protect ‘shariat’, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a serious exception to the proposed legislation on the instant triple talaq. He was addressing a public meeting at the MIM headquarters Darussalam on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi on Saturday.

Asking the Muslims to remain united, Owaisi questioned as to how the Union government could bring in the bill in Parliament on the issue and said the Supreme Court verdict on triple talaq was confusing. Nobody can say if uttering talaq thrice in one sitting annuls the marriage.

The MIM chief asked if the government would provide financial assistance to women if their husbands were sent to jail for three years and warned that the legislation could lead to a new problem of husbands abandoning their wives. He came hard on the Modi government for speaking only about the rights of the Muslim women but ignoring ‘Hindu sisters’.

Twenty lakh Hindu women have been abandoned by their husbands and asked if the Modi government would come to their rescue. On the issue of Padmavati film, he said the Sangh Parivar shows sympathy towards the Muslim women but was not allowing a film to be released. “When you can’t allow a film (‘Padmavati’) to be released, how can you interfere in my ‘shariat’,” Owaisi asked.

Calling for the Muslim unity, Owaisi said the community should take a cue from the Rajputs, who in spite of being small in number could stop the release of the film. “Muslims should unite to save ‘shariat’,” he added. Giving another example, the MP also drew the attention of the Muslims to Patels, Gujjars, Jats and Marathas who came together to fight for their rights and for reservation.
Referring to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement that Taj Mahal is not part of Indian culture, he questioned the hosting of dinner by PM Modi at Falaknuma Palace for US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and others.

“You have to see the symbols of our forefathers,” he remarked while also referring to the other dinner hosted at the Golconda Fort for delegates of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) this week.

Describing both the Congress and BJP leaders as hypocrites, whose leaders vie with one another in visiting temples, Owaisi said claiming to be a bigger Hindu than the other. While both the parties compete with each other to prove who is more Hindu, they unite in opposing quota for the Muslims, he said.

Refuting the Congress allegation that the MIM was dividing votes, he said the party contested only 28 seats out of 400 in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and in the civic polls in UP, MIM won 32 seats but the Congress got only 19 seats and could not win a single seat in Amethi.
