Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s native district Siddipet occupied the top rank in poultry farming, followed by Ranga Reddy, Medak and Yadadri Bhongir districts in the State. Out of 8 crore birds reared in the State, 1.90 crore were nurtured in the Chief Minister’s district. Officials attributed availability of land, water and transport facilities as the main reason for the rapid growth of poultry industry in Siddipet district.

Hyderabad stood last among the 31 districts in poultry farming as only 42, 857 birds were reared in the State capital. The Animal Husbandry officials said the farmers came forward in big numbers in Siddipet district to take up poultry as a profitable profession in their agricultural land. The farming community was attracted to the incentives announced by the State government which includes free power supply to small poultry, zero interest loans from scheduled banks and highly subsidised poultry feed to the growers.

As per the official data released by the State Planning Department, the total poultry count had been put at 8.07 crore in the State. Ranga Reddy district stood second with 1.72 crore chicken count, Medak with 59 lakh birds stood third and with 48.75 lakh birds Yadadri Bhongir district stood fourth. Rapid growth of poultry in the four districts helped to meet 70 per cent demand for chicken and eggs in the State.

The infrastructure with 20 lakh poultry capacity each had been developed in Nizamabad, Warangal (Urban), Sangareddy, Medhcal – Malkajigiri, Mahbubnagar and Naglonda districts. Less than 5 lakh poultry each was registered in Kumuram Bheem, Mancherial and Nirmal districts.

Since the demand for chicken and eggs is growing up in the State and the country, the State government decided to prepare a plan to promote poultry on a grand scale in rural districts.
