Warangal: Three B Tech students, a degree student and a minor boy, who have turned into chain snatchers to make easy money and to live lavish life, were caught by the CCS police.
The CCS police have caught the students and the minor boy along with an auto driver, the main accused in several chain snatching cases. They were said to have become addicts to liquor consumption and resorted to chain snatchings to meet their needs.
The arrested were identified as Penukala Sai Kiran, an auto driver of Madikonda; and his relative Penukala Sravan, a degree first year student; Kommineni Manoj Patel of Danthalapalli in Mahbubabad district, studying B Tech final year; Bairi Akhil of Karimabad, who recently completed B Tech; and Mohammed Usman of Charbowli, B Tech final year student. The details of the sixth accused were not revealed since he was minor.
The additional DCP (Crimes) B Ashok Kumar, who produced them before the media here on Sunday, informed that the police recovered 64 grams gold ornaments worth Rs 1.64 lakh and two motorcycles they used for committing chain snatchings.
Special teams were formed to catch the chain snatching gang. Based on description of the accused given by the victims, a hunt was launched for the accused. On receiving information about their movements at CSR Gardens area in Hunter Road, the CCS inspector P Davidraj, Subedari Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumar conducted vehicle searches in the area. The accused were taken into custody and during interrogation they confessed to their crimes. They used to target lonely women moving in isolated colonies in the tri-cities and snatch their gold ornaments. They committed series of chain snatchings under Mills Colony, KUC, Hanamkonda and Subedari police stations limits.
Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu appreciated the efforts of the DCP, Hanamkonda ACPs B Babu Rao and Rajendra Prasad, inspector Davidraj, SIs Naveen Kumar, BVS Rao, ASI Sanjeeva Reddy, head constables Srinivas Raju, constables in nabbing the gang.
