Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress is looking forward to a new era in its organisational setup as party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, in all likelihood, would take over the reins of the party next week.

Rahul Gandhi will file his nomination papers for the party president post on Monday, last day for filing nominations. And if no other nomination is filed against him, Rahul would be declared elected as president of the party. The announcement would come on Tuesday, when the nomination would be scrutinised and accepted. Congress leaders are sure that election of Rahul as president of the party is just a formality.

Leaders of the Telangana Congress feel that there would be sweeping changes in the activities of the party once Rahul takes the charge. Already, as vice-president, Rahul ensured many changes in the party organisational working system.

He has focused more on rebuilding the party from grassroot-level and in this regard, he has instructed the party leaders to enroll as many members as possible, constitute booth committees, village committees, mandal, constituency, district and state committees, sources said. According to party leaders, unlike the old leadership, the Gandhi scion has been insisting on a perfect organisational setup. They said the party high command has ignored the party construction in the past decade and has been paying for that.

A senior Congress leader said, in the past, Congress focused on usurping power than on strengthening organisation. However, Rahul, henceforth, wants the party should come first over electoral politics. As a young leader, Rahul is passionate about social media and other information technology tools and would use them extensively for dissemination of information.

As Telangana was the stronghold of Congress, Rahul would focus on the State and would monitor the activities directly, party leaders said. Under his instructions, several committees have already been working on rebuilding the party in the State.

Party leaders said that Rahul would insist on paying attention to the social issues and would insist on mustering the support of all the sections of the society. The state party would be instructed to bring back the traditional supporters of the party, who have drifted away in the recent past, to the party fold. The Congress high command would take regular feedback from the State party and would guide it from time to time. The state party committee would also be revamped, and new office bearers would be appointed. The frontal organisations, NSUI, Youth Congress and Mahila Congress would be reconstituted. The party would come up with new wings to attract various sections of the society.
