Hyderabad: The staff outsourced by Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC), who have been taken in under Project IPP8 in 1997, have been waiting for regular salaries since 2014. Nearly 220 persons, who have been working in 90 government hospitals as security guards, nurses, multipurpose health assistant’s, drivers and data operators, haven’t received their salaries and provident fund allowances.

Furthermore, they are made to work for 24 hours and even on holidays. Several pleas to the higher officials highlighting their plight have went in vain. Pouring out her woes, P Prameela Rani, a nurse said, “This year, we received salary in April and May. Since then they did not credit the salary. Most of the time they credit the salary on 25 of every month and that too half of the amount. It is very difficult to run the house and take care of kids’ education.”

Echoing a similar view, K Naga Raju, a watchman lamented that the officials concerned were not recognising their efforts though have been working for the last 20 years. “We did not receive my provident fund money in 2012 and 2013,” he added.

While another watchman B Madhu added that officials make him work for the entire day, G Kishan, a security guard, alleged that the medical officer of Jambagh Park UPHC makes him do the officer’s household chores. “If I question them, they warn me of losing job and the salary,” he added.

Meanwhile, District Medical Officer K Padmaja stated that they have been getting only Rs 2 crore instead of allocated fund of Rs 4 crore. “We need to adjust this amount and there are four contractors who will distribute salaries to the staff. The contract is given by the Hyderabad Collector. If we get the money, we will certainly give them salaries.”
