Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is planning to celebrate December 9, the day when the UPA government announced the initiation of creation of Telangana State, on a grand scale. Apart from that, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi’s birthday also falls on the same day.

Keeping in mind these factors, the TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy issued instructions on Wednesday that the party leaders and workers celebrate December 9 on grand scale and organise various activities in this regard. The celebrations will be held across the State. He said the day will be celebrated as ‘Thanksgiving Day.’

He said that on December 9, flexi banners of AICC President Sonia Gandhi will be set up in villages and cake will be cut followed by fireworks in the evening. He instructed the workers to organise food distribution programmes in villages and towns. He said at Gandhi Bhavan a huge flexi banner with a thank you message to Sonia Gandhi would be set up and fireworks show will be held in the evening.

The TPCC wants to regain its lost glory and use December 9 to its advantage and hence decided to celebrate the day on a large scale to grab the attention of people. On December 9, 2009, the then UPA government at the Centre had announced the initiation of creation of Telangana State.

The TPCC wants to use this occasion for its benefit as it lost the elections in 2014 even though the party at the Centre granted statehood to Telangana. The party had expected that it would win the State and would also send a big contingent of MPs to the Lok Sabha, but people gave the credit of statehood to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and it bagged majority of the seats in Assembly and in the Lok Sabha.

Though the party had been stating time and again that it was the real champion of Telangana, the people still give the credit to TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The Congress wants to divert the attention of the people from TRS and show Sonia Gandhi as the true benefactor for Telangana.
