Hyderabad/ Karimnagar: The two -day ‘Project Baata’ embarked on by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao gave a major fillip to the prestigious Kaleshwaram project. The Chief Minister, sporting a cowboy hat went around the project site, chatting up with engineers and giving them necessary directions, thus giving the needed impetus for the project at its barrages - Maddigadda and Annaram- Sundilla and pump house.
During his inspection of the project site, the Chief Minister set deadline for the completion of every barrage, canal, surge pool and electricity works – sub-stations and switchyards – for the lift irrigation schemes. KCR visited the barrages, tunnels and pump houses and enquired progress in the works. He addressed hurdles facing by contract agencies and irrigation engineers in executing the works on the spot.
On the second day on Friday, KCR visited Medaram (Package 6) in Peddapalli district and Ramadugu (Package 8) in Karimnagar district and examined the underground works. The Chief Minister also made a keen inspection of the main tunnel to the pump house.
Enquiring about the progress of works, KCR order the officials concerned to remove the mud and soil that is accumulated at Gravity canal which is constructed to supply water from pump house along with completing the lining works with CC for free flow of water. Water for irrigation purpose must be supplied to farmers by completing the project works by the end of June. Construct the roads so that officials can reach easily to the construction sites, suggested the CM.
The project envisages lifting of water from Medigadda and pump it up to Yellampally via Annaram and Sundilla. From Yellampally the water will reach underground surge pool on the outskirts of Medaram village through a tunnel. The 9.53 km long tunnel will be constructed with 10 diametres ‘D’ shaped radius. The BHEL officials, who are entrusted with manufacturing of the pumpsets, informed KCR that of the seven pumpsets two will be fixed by June and the rest by December next. The CM wanted all the works to be done by next summer and keep everything ready to pump and lift water. He also instructed officials to complete works to draw water in large quantities from Godavari from the next monsoon.
Speaking in a review meeting organised on the occasion, Chandrashekar Rao said: “If there are any problems in acquiring of lands, solve them immediately and complete the works within the prescribed time limit.”
The Chief Minister ordered the Collectors of Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts, Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, higher officials, Genco and Forest officials along with the representatives of all agencies that are involved in construction works to attend for a review meeting that would be conducted at Pargati Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday at 11 am. In his visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers – Etela Rajender, T Harish Rao and Chief Secretary SP Singh.
