Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday instructed irrigation officials to make arrangements for supply of drinking water to villages under Mission Bhagiratha from Kaleshwaram project in 45 days.

After winding up his two-day visit to Kaleshwaram project, the Chief Minister held a high-level review on project works with officials at Pragathi Bhavan here. “Mission Bhagiratha works are going on well. In the next 45 days, 98 per cent villages will get water. Provide the required water to Mission Bhagiratha from Kaleswaram and other projects. Mission Bhagiratha got a good name all over the country,” he told officials.

Discussing the progress in the works, KCR asked the officials that Kaleswaram project should be completed on a priority basis since all the required permissions, funds, land acquisition and other related issues are cleared and as such there are no obstacles.

Disclosing that the environmental clearance for the final stage of Kaleswaram is expected anytime, the Chief Minister suggested the officials to speed up the works for Mission Bhagiratha since it is dependent on water from Kaleshwaram. KCR said the government is standing by the affidavit it has filed in the court and drinking water works are going on as part of the Kaleswaram project works. A provision of Rs 25,000 crore in the budget and another Rs 20,000 crore is being mobilised through banks and other financial institutions for the project, he said.

The CM also reviewed the works pertaining to barrages, canals, tunnels, pump houses, sub-stations, switch yards and other related works. The CM said that through the projects taken up on the Godavari river drinking water and water for agriculture is being provided to seven erstwhile districts, including Hyderabad. The CM thanked the officials who worked hard to get the permissions to the Kaleswaram project quickly.
