Film actress Vijayashanti is waiting for a positive signal from All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to take the plunge into campaigning for the party.
Hyderabad: Film actress Vijayashanti is waiting for a positive signal from All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to take the plunge into campaigning for the party.
Vijayashanti has high hopes of securing a good position in the party. Party sources have indicated that she may be appointed as AICC secretary.
She had recently met party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, and made her stand clear. She wants to return to active politics. After the defeat in the byelections to the Lok Sabha, she had taken part in any party programme.
Sources in the party said that the high command had assured her a good position in the party. The party has, in fact, made it clear that she would be given a good position. The Congress party, which is chalking out a strategy for the next general election, has been urging the leaders to get into campaign mode.
As Vijayashanthi has lot of popularity in the State, she would be helpful in mustering the support of the party cadre and the masses, particularly the women.
The veteran leader, who got elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Medak constituency on behalf of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, had developed serious differences with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and left the TRS to join the Congress. Being a strong rival of the Chief Minister, her presence in the party activities would bring anti-KCR forces together.
Congress is also hoping that Vijayashanthi would help in securing the votes of the Backward Classes for the party. As she hailed from Padmashali community, she is expected to help the party get the votes of the community.
