Hyderabad: Lashing out at Congress leader Revanth Reddy for ‘individually attacking’ IT Minister K T Rama Rao, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders on Sunday asked whether the Congress would dare to take same action like it did against veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar.
Addressing a press conference at the TRS Legislature Party office, Peddapally MP B Suman, along with Chief Whip P Rajeshwar Reddy, V Prashanth Reddy, asked as to why the Congress, which suspended Mani Shankar Aiyar for speaking against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, did not take action against Revanth Reddy. He ridiculed the statements of Revanth Reddy targeting the family members of Rama Rao.
He said that the Congress leaders were indulging in ‘uncultured comments’ like targeting the family members in the name of caste. “We can also talk in filthier language than Revanth Reddy but our culture does not permit us to talk in that manner. Earlier, we asked the former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader to change his attitude but he never bothered to consider our suggestion,” said Suman.
The TRS MP took strong exception to the comments of Revanth Reddy about false caste claim by Rama Rao’s father-in-law. He said the TRS did not believe that Rama Rao’s father-in-law got government job by using a fake caste certificate.
“Even if we accept that Rama Rao’s father-in-law applied through a fake caste certificate, the Congress was in power then and the TDP also did not take any action against him so it was the fault of the Congress and the TDP, which Revanth Reddy belonged,” said Suman.
He alleged that the former TDP leader was speaking to get newspaper headlines. He further said that asking the caste of Rama Rao’s wife showed the culture of Revanth Reddy.
Chief Whip P Rajeshwar Reddy said that the TRS would be in power for 20 years and the Congress should only dream about coming into power. The TRS leader listed out various schemes of the government including loan waiver, pensions to beedi workers, handicapped, artists and others. He said from the next agricultural season, the government would provide un-interrupted power supply to the farmers.
V Prashanth Reddy said it was because of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s hunger strike the Congress had to take a decision on the separate Telangana. “December 9 became historical because of the hunger strike by Chandrashekar Rao, which forced the Congress government to make an announcement on Telangana,” said Prashanth Reddy.
The Congress felt that it would be finished in the State if it did not grant separate Telangana and hence Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad came to the residence of Chandrashekar Rao and proposed alliance between the Congress and the TRS. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had promised to form Telangana in the Karimnagar meeting following that, he said.
