Hyderabad: The cash-strapped Telangana State Road Transport Corporation's (TSRTC) efforts to generate additional revenue through petrol pumps on its vacant premises have failed to yield positive results. The TSRTC has so far received EoI (expression of interest) for only for 10 out of 115 petrol pumps proposed to be established. Most of the 10 pumps proposed are in the vicinity of the State capital.

According to sources, the contractors have not shown interest because of the proposed points for petrol pumps are ill-suited for business. Apart from it, the contractor complain of fixing of high rent. The TSRTC is likely to get response for over 10 petrol pumps in the State and mostly in the Hyderabad city limits. For remaining petrol pumps response is not encouraging, said sources.

The TSRTC has entered into MoU with the oil companies like HPCL and IOCL for setting up of petrol pumps in its open lands. As per the decision, it has been proposed to set up 10 petrol pumps in Hyderabad city zone and 49 in Hyderabad zone and 56 in Karimnagar zone. It has also called for tenders for maintenance by the third party.

However, the TSRTC could not get a positive response from the investors. "The response for the pumps proposed in the villages was poor and at some of the places, the investors were of the opinion that the lease fixed was high and hence did not come forward for participating in the tenders," said a senior official.

According to officials, the TSRTC would soon start petrol pumps in Mahbubnagar, Sangareddy, Rajendranagar. The petrol pump in Hakimpet has already been launched, said the official. The official said some more pumps would be coming up at Bichkunda and Birkur in Nizamabad district, Kangti at Zaheerabad in Medak, Mahabubabad and Hanamkonda in Warangal district. The corporation has received NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the concerned district collectors.

It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during his day-long review meeting with the TSRTC officials in June last year, directed the corporation to find ways and means to increase its revenues apart from the passenger services. The corporation has been reeling under accumulated losses of Rs 2,200 crore.
