Hyderabad: In its efforts to curb corruption and bring transparency in the activities of municipalities and other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State, the CDMA (Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration) brought up several online initiatives including filing and calculating property tax online, grievance registrations etc.

This was informed by the CDMA T K Sreedevi in a press conference at the CDMA office on Monday. Sreedevi said bringing transparency in the department activities decreased corruption and as part of that, several initiatives had been brought by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department.

She said the department brought citizen services in online mode, with which the issues could be resolved without coming to the offices. “About 23 services have been included in the Citizen Buddy mobile application. If the user registers for a grievance, they would be informed who would resolve their issue and by what time it could be resolved and whom to approach in case of delay etc.,” said Sreedevi.

The CDMA said the department now had land registry, which it had done through geotagging. She said if someone wanted to buy a property, the details of that property could be obtained online on the Bhuvan platform of NRSC (National Remote Sensing Centre). The site would have every detail right from first transaction of the property to ENCs (encumbrance certificates) and also the details such as tax on the property along with the picture of the building. There would be a property tax calculator on the website.

This was a phenomenal attempt by the municipalities for citizens in towns, said the CDMA. The pictures related to the property were updated by the Bhuvan application, she added. There are 12.5 lakh households in the 72 ULBs in the State and recently with the help of geotagging, the department found out over 16,000 new properties which were not in the property tax net.

Sreedevi said the CDMA proposed to launch a few mobile applications to simplify the application procedures for the citizens. There are about 19,000 downloads of the Citizen Buddy mobile application of the department, she said adding that to commemorate the World Telugu Conference, the department had included the grievance redressal system in Telugu in the mobile app. Apart from this, another app would be brought by the department for citizen services like drivers, plumbers, cooks etc, Sreedevi said.
