Hyderabad: The Telangana government will showcase its efforts in the promotion of Telugu through education in schools, colleges and universities at the five-day World Telugu Conference to be held from December 15 in the city.

Making Telugu compulsory from elementary to Intermediate in the education sector, regular cultural programmes, including the conduct of essay competition and elocution in Telugu in government educational institutions and special classes for students to improve communication skills in Telugu in the urban areas were among the important initiatives taken up by the government for the promotion of Telugu in the state.

Director of Cultural department M Hari Krishna said the Telangana Sahitya Akademi finalised new syllabus for Telugu to be implemented up to Intermediate from next academic year. The Akademi will place all the material in the conference and seek suggestions if any from the participants.

Arrangements were already made for the students’ participation in the Telugu conference where they will exhibit skills in the Telugu language developed in schools and colleges. Students are given freedom to write poems, short stories and narrate them on the dais at special programmes during the conference. The conference will be the best platform for the students to tone up their skills in Telugu language.

All the District Education Officers were instructed to send a group of students from the recognised government schools where the Telugu language was promoted in a big way since the formation of Telangana.

Hari said that critical analysis on the status of Telugu promotion through education systems will also be done. Telugu teaching staff working at Intermediate, Degree and University-level were invited to attend the conference.

More than 200 academicians will share their experiences and ideas in the promotion of Telugu for the future generations through education. The government constituted a panel of judges to ascertain the performance of the Telugu faculty who will be felicitated for their yeomen service to the language.
