The High Court at Hyderabad has granted relief to Prof Kancha Ilaiah by granting stay of all further proceedings before X Metropolitan Magistrate, Cyberabad at Neredmet in Hyderabad in the criminal case pending against him in Malkajgiri police station. While granting the stay of proceedings for a period of one month, the High Court also dispensed with his personal appearance in the lower court hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy gave this direction on Monday while hearing a Writ petition filed by Prof Ilaiah seeking to quash the criminal proceedings pending against him in Malkajgiri police station. The Malkajgiri police had on October 11 this year registered a case under Section 153 (A)(c) 153 (B) 295-A, 509 of IPC, Section 3 (1) of POA Act read with 156 (3) of Cr PC against the professor based on a complaint from a student K Nagaraju.

The petitioner urged the court to declare the action of the Malkajgiri police of the city in registering case against him under the Prevention of SC and STs Atrocities (POA) Act as illegal. He urged the court to quash the case against him in Malkajgiri police station as the allegations against him are absurd and vague.
