Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police solved the mystery of ‘hazardous chemical drums’, which were being dumped in fields in Yadagirigutta and surrounding villages for the past six months. After several complaints from locals, the police finally arrested the accused who were dumping the chemical drums related to chemical companies based in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka States.

According to police, the representatives of chemical companies based in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Bidar, in collusion with some locals, have been dumping the drums filled with chemicals in the fields and open areas in Yadagirigutta, Motakondur, Bhongir Rural, Bommala Ramaram of Yadadri-Bhongir district and Gundala, Lingala Ghanpur of Jangaon district for the past six months.

After several complaints, the police, who launched the probe, identified a car regularly used by culprits with the help of CCTV footage. A team of cops led by Yadagirigutta inspector A Anjaneyulu on Sunday intercepted the car and the lorries carrying the drums and took the drivers into custody, who spilled the beans during interrogation. “They were dumping chemicals drums in fields under six police station limits. It is case of hazardous material dumping, hence action was initiated,” said DCP Bhongir, E Ramachandra Reddy to The Hans India.

The DCP said the prime accused A Narsi Reddy, 55, a businessman from Gundala mandal in Jangoan district, along with his associates T Upendar and N Srinu formed a group. Later, he took the help of N Rambabu, G Venkat Reddy, P Srinivas, N Venkat Reddy and Balu Naik and made a plan to dump the chemical waste. Further, the police also registered complaint against each of the companies and arrested their representatives, before writing a complaint to director of PCB (Pollution Control Board).

Representatives including T Krishna Bharath Kumar of Vijetha Labs Pvt Ltd at Pashamailaram, Rajeswar Reddy of Viroopaksha Laboratories Pvt Ltd at Jeedimetla, K Satyanarayana of KMTK Laboratories Pvt Ltd at Vijayawada, Ch Ramakrishna of Yag-Mag Labs Pvt Ltd at Pashamailaram), Ch Chandrasekhar of Amrutha Chemical Pvt Ltd at IDA Bollaram, B Ramesh of Golden Streak Laboratories Pvt Ltd at Veliminedu, D Murali Krishna of Salubrious Laboratories Pvt Ltd at Pashamailaram, Prabhakar Reddy of Suryakala Laboratories Pvt Ltd at Bidar) and others are found accused in the case. All the arrested accused persons were sent to remand on Monday.
