Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao turned a Telugu poet and enthralled the audience by reciting poems he was taught during his childhood at the inaugural function of the World Telugu Conference that began on a grand manner at LB Stadium on Friday night.

The Chief Minister began his speech by reciting the famous “Jo Achuthananda Jojo Mukunda” poem and stressed the responsibility of parents to inculcate the habit of speaking Telugu from childhood in their children.

Turning nostalgic, Chandrashekar Rao said his teachers recognised his talent in Telugu language and provided a platform to pursue Telugu as a main subject in his studies.

He recalled how his teacher Mudigonda Veerabhadriah lauded him when he brought to his notice the word “Poota Rekulu” used in a Telugu song in a film acted by famous hero Shobhan Babu.

Poota Rekulu is the name of a sweet prepared locally in coastal Andhra district. Telangana was unaware the sweet during 1970s. His teacher had to approach his counterpart in Vijayawada to know the word used in the song.

Chandrashekar Rao also explained the encouragement given by his guru Mruthunjaya Sharma in writing poems at school level. The Chief Minister recited some poems written by Vemana and explained the meaning in it. He asserted that teachers should strive hard and encourage students to develop communication skills in Telugu.
