Bhadradri-Kothagudem: In what is termed as a mop up operation, the police who hitherto had a total ascendency over Janashakthi group that dominated the agency region of Khammam and Warangal (undivided) districts, have once again heralded that there was no space for ultras anymore when they killed eight naxalites of the newly-floated armed outfit, CPI-ML (CP-Bata), in a pre-dawn operation in Gangaram forest area of Tekulapally on Thursday.
The CP-Bata is one of those factions of CPI-ML New Democracy that emerged as new outfit some six months ago much on the lines of Chandranna faction, which in past had a strong political base in Yellandu, Gundala, Bayyaram and Garla mandals. Besides procuring arms, the new outfit accelerated its activity in the region by putting up posters demanding granting of rights over Podu lands for the Adivasis, where the Kothagudem has been on high alert.
Against this backdrop, the police arrested four CP-Bata militants in Mangapet mandal of Bhupalpally district a week ago. Close on its heels, the police also arrested two persons of the outfit at Rollapadu.
It’s suspected that police might have got a tip-off from these arrested. Since then, the Kothagudem police have been in touch with their Khammam and Mahabubabad district counterparts, according to sources.
Demanding a probe into the killings, regional secretary of the New Democracy Avunuri Madhu told The Hans India: “The State is targeting the rebels who are working for the Adivasis and poor.” New Democracy (Chandranna Group) State secretariat member Mukthar Pasha alleged that the government is resorting to extra-judicial executions.
He termed the incident as fake encounter as the police who apprehended the naxalites killed them intentionally. Speaking to media persons in Khammam, Arunodaya Samskritika Samakhya singer Vimalakka also condemned the killings of naxalites.
CPI(M) Kothagudem district secretary and Sheep Rearers Association honorary president Kasani Ailaiah demanded the government to announce an ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of those who died in the encounter.
