The conference was inaugurated by Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu who suggested that the Telugu language should be encouraged in Public Service examinations and also be made a part of governance.

Stressing for the need for more collective action by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in promoting Telugu, Venkaiah Naidu said the usage of Telugu on the internet must be encouraged while online courses and literary books in Telugu should be offered.

The Vice-President said the future of mother tongue was in peril due to the linkage of education with the job opportunities.

Lauding Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for making Telugu a compulsory subject till Class 12, he opined that the Telugu language needs to be enforced and hence urged for it to be made compulsory means of communication for the people who wish to work in Telangana.

Over 8,000 delegates from 42 countries, 17 states and one Union Territory attended the conference.
