Hyderabad: It is a case of so near and yet so far in regard to the Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase-II is concerned. Two out of the five corridors are in advanced stage of completion and one project is completed and just requires the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection.

The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) which is executing the project is forced to go slow for paucity of funds. The State government is supposed to contribute two-thirds out of the estimated cost of Rs 817 crore as on 2012-13 period, but it had released just Rs 60 crore thus far. P Srinivas, Chief Project Manager, RVNL said, “We are positive as the State government is keen on the successful completion of the project. The file is in process and we are expecting the next instalment anytime soon.”

It is a matter of a push and shove as far as the project goes, said railway officials. For instance, the Tellapur-Ramchandrapuram package is complete and only a safety certificate is required.

Likewise, work on the second platform and booking office at Gundlapochampally is moving at a brisk pace and a second platform and Foot over Bridge (FoB) at Gowdavalli is at an advanced stage of completion.
The Bolarum-Medchal package, if opened, would turn out to be a huge boon to the people residing in Secunderabad as there is only one train every two hours to Medchal.

Noor, member of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) and general secretary, Suburban Train and Bus Travellers Association, Malkajgiri said, “The Bolarum-Medchal package route should be opened first as there is a huge demand. Even the Falaknuma-Umdanagar stretch can be completed only if the State government releases funds. Rails and sleepers are already stocked.”

Five stations coming up
In the MMTS-Phase II, five new stations are coming up and work is in different stages of completion. Except Suchitra Centre, the RVNL is waiting for formal permission from Local Military Authority to launch work on the other four stations is going on.

The new stations that would be added to the MMTS network are Suchitra Centre, Neredmet, Moula Ali HB Colony and Bhoodevi Nagar.

Defence authorities delay permission
The Moula Ali-Sanatnagar (20km) stretch is lagging behind for want of permission from the Local Military Authority (LMA). The bone of contention is the 3.85 km Defence land at Suchitra Centre and 0.20 km Defence land at Bhoodevinagar-Ammuguda stretch.

RVNL officials say that only formal permission is to be accorded by the LMA.
