The curtains came down on the five-day World Telugu Conference (WTC) on Tuesday in the historic city of Hyderabad which wore a festive look bedecked with nearly 100 arches erected across the city bringing back the living memories of the great poets, writers and men of letters who had contributed to the Telugu language and literature for centuries.

Festooned with innumerable electric illumination, the trees and flyovers, sideways and roads leading to the main venue of the WTC has brought a new hue to the city which has hosted a well over 16,000 delegates, including those from 42 countries like Australia, USA, UK, Sweden, Mauritius, Singapore, Sweden, Mauritius and thousands more registered from 18 states.

The main venue at Lal Bahadur Stadium has witnessed an unprecedented gathering to its full strengthen for both the inaugural and closing ceremonies. While the inaugural function launched by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu had been attended by about 42,000 people, the closing ceremony has surpassed with nearly 50,000 people attending the ceremony and hundreds more stranded outside the venue for not able to gain the entry.

Apart from the main venue of LB Stadium, where the inaugural and closing ceremonies were held, nearly 100 seminars and 150 literary sessions were held at Potti Sriramulu Telugu University (PSTU), LB Indoor Stadium, Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium, Ravindra Bharathi and Telangana Sarswatha Parishad.

Themes of the seminars ranged from ‘Development of Telugu language in Telangana’, ‘Oral Traditions in the State’ ‘Life of Telangana Song’, ‘Greatness of Telangana Poetry’. Also, sessions were held on different genres of literature like the story, novel, literary criticism, and Sathaka, Sankirthana and Geya literature in Telangana.

The Avadhana remained a huge crowd puller as the unique feat showcasing multiple talents of a performer had given a taste of the richness of the Telugu language. Similarly, usage of Telugu language in the administration, courts, and media was among the other sessions in which nearly 500 writers and 1,500 poets have participated.

Apart from facilitating prominent people who had made the significant contribution to the language and literature about 250 books have been released during the five-day WTC. It was ensured that every session is attended by a minister to send a clear message that the State government is committed to the promotion of the Telugu language and literature.
