Hyderabad: Ringing down curtains on the five-day cultural extravaganza, the valedictory ceremony of the World Telugu Conference witnessed over 30,000 literary lovers thronging the LB Stadium premises, here on Tuesday.

From relishing the traditional Telangana dishes to enjoying the native folk performances of the Lambadas to being in one with the Bonalu and Sammakka Sarraka celebrations, people of all ages seemed to enjoy every bit of the literary fiesta that showcased Telangana’s rich heritage to the world.

“I have come here from Rajamahendravaram with my family and was explaining my daughter about the various Telugu poets and authors present on the Thoranams of the stadium. But as I spoke to her I’m reminded of my childhood when I was taught about them,” shares Venkaiah.

But due to the unexpected crowd, it became increasingly difficult for the city police and traffic personnel to control them. Parking lots arranged a kilometre from the entry caused trouble for senior citizens who struggled their way to find the entry gate.

Moreover, the absence of a separate way for women caused inconvenience each time the gates were open for the audience to move out of the venue. Stampede-like-situations prevailed at different entry points but timely police intervention helped people move in and out of the venue safely.

“No one listened to me when I said I have the entry pass. Even a woman officer at one of the entrances spoke rudely to me,” complained Veena. The restless crowd came to a standstill when a spark from the fireworks lit the haystack atop at food stall near the venue but the fire was controlled by a firefighting personnel and police officer present at the venue.

Despite the little inconvenience here and there, the event enthralled audiences and brought Telugu language lovers under one roof. So all’s well that ends well!
