Hyderabad: ‘Shadow team’ would be on the prowl in colleges. This is the latest technique that She Team has come up with to keep tabs on those who harass girls in colleges. Billed as SHE for HER, the She Team unit of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has selected 250 girl students from 160 colleges who will be taking part in an orientation programme on Wednesday at IICT, Habsiguda to identify and report any incidents of eve-teasing and harassment in colleges.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of SHE Team S Salima told The Has India: “We have selected students from 160 colleges who would be connected with us through our “SHE FOR HER” whatsapp group which would be monitored by Commissioner of Police Mahesh Bhagwat and other SHE Team members of the commissionerate. The volunteers can immediately report any kind of problem through the group, so that the local SI along with other police staff can reach the spot and immediately help the girl being harassed.”

The selection of these students was made on a random basis where the SHE team officials conducted workshops in different colleges regarding women safety, and asked the students who wished to be volunteers for the SHE Team. "We would be giving basic legal sessions, which would include discussion and presentation on the nature of crimes committed against women and what laws that are in force to protect them, including Nirbhaya.

These volunteers would not only report any kind of problems from the premises of their college but also from society where they live in,” said Salima. Salima said that all those arrested under charges of harassing women would be tried under various sections of Indian Penal Code.

“We want the number of crimes against women to come to zero in our commissionrate limits with this initiative,” she said. Last month, the SHE team of Rachakonda Commissionerate booked 36 cases (18 FIRs, 15 petty cases and 3 counseling cases) against eve-teasers and apprehended 33 men and seven minors.
