Hyderabad: The Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) of Municipal Administration Department is developing the mobile app ‘Urban Genie’ which provides services like drivers, cooks, plumbers, electricians, interior decorators, cleaners and other domestic helps.

According to the officials of Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), the Department proposes to offer domestic helps in the urban local bodies (ULBs) aimed at providing services and also providing employment opportunities to the unemployed youth involved in various professions. A senior official told Hans India that the Android Mobile app enables citizens to find service providers for daily needed services such as electrician, plumber, fitter, repairer etc.

The official said that by downloading the app citizens can request for the services in their respective area. When such request is placed, they are auto-forwarded to local City Livelihood Center (CLC) of the municipality. Based on the area and type of service required the CLC will send trained, verified service provider and skilled professionals to the house. Citizens who avails services would also be asked to give their feedback on the service and quality that would facilitate MEPMA to provide better services, said the official.

The officials said the application would be started in some of the municipalities like Siddipet and Khammam and the app would be launched soon. The official said that MEPMA would be fixing the charges for providing the services so that they do not charge exorbitantly. CDMA T K Sreedevi said that by this mobile app, Telangana MEPMA would be bridging the gap between demand and supply. This would also help in enhancing the employment opportunities for the urban needy. It is like creating communication between the citizens and services providers in municipalities.
