Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday directed the officials to complete all the arrangement works of the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara by January 15.

The Minister along with Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, Tribal Welfare Minister A Chandulal held a review meeting on the arrangements for the Jatara on Saturday.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officials to make arrangements on a grand scale for the Jatara and compete all the works by January 15. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had allocated Rs 80 crore for the Jatara. The Ministers would meet again in Medaram to review the arrangements on January 18. The Ministers said the State government would appeal to the Centre to declare the Medaram Jatara as a national festival. It is also known as Kumbh Mela of Tribals.

The Ministers would visit New Delhi on January 2 along with MPs and MLAs and talk to the Union Tribal Minister Jual Oram.

He said the Samakka Sarlamma Jatara is the biggest congregation of tribals in Asia and is visited by devotees not only from the State but also from the neighbouring States. As many as one crore devotees are expected to attend the Jatara.

The officials were directed to ensure all facilities for the devotees. The police department was instructed to set up a control room during Jatara and ensure foolproof security system. Medaram Jatara is held between January 31 and February 3 every year.
