90 per cent of 34 crore plants geo-tagged in TS

Hyderabad: The continuous monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the state government’s flagship programme, Telanganaku Haritha Haram (THH) have yielded a near 90 per cent of geo-tagging of about 34 crore trees planted.

According to the state forest department sources, Warangal (urban) and Medchal districts have achieved the highest cumulative percentage in planting the trees going beyond the target given. The Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) data recorded that Warangal urban and rural, Medchal, Bhadradri, Khammam, Sircilla, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Mancherial and Nizamabad districts have crossed the 100 percent targeted plantation. As against this, Nirmal, Vikarabad, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts are at the lowest achievers in the implementation of the programme as they have not crossed the 60 per cent of the targeted plantation given to them.

Interestingly, the Warangal Urban stood first in the plantation of trees with 117.49 percentage followed by Medchal with 117.28 percentage. However, when it comes to geo-tagging of the plants to monitoring their survival, it was the Jangoan district which stood first.

Speaking to The Hans India, a senior of the forest department said, “The geo-tagging has been completed in Jangoan with 107.33 per cent standing first ahead of all other districts. Sangareddy, Medchal, Kamareddy and Khammam are standing in second to fourth positions, respectively.”

Adding, earlier the cumulative geo-tagging of the trees planted was around 85 per cent at the beginning of the current month. However, now it has touched 90 percent, he said.

Of about 34 crore saplings planted so far, 17 districts in the state have completed the geo-tagging work achieving 99 percent and in 10 more districts the overall percentage is between 80 to 89 percent. With the sole exception of Bhupalpally where only 60 percent of the geo-tagging works have been completed, Peddapalli, Adilabad, Siddipet, Mahbubnagar districts, though crossed 70 per cent mark, and were still lagging behind all others in the geo-tagging of the trees, he said.
