AISTEA opposes inclusion of Boya community in ST list

Hyderabad: All India Scheduled Tribes Employees Association has demanded that the government withdraw its decision to include the Boya community in the scheduled Tribes (STs) list.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, All India ST Employees Association secretary general C V Ramana along with the president Anjaneyulu, said the State government had recently taken a decision in the Cabinet to include the Boya community in the list of ST list in both the Telugu speaking states.

He said if the decision was implemented, the other castes in ST list would be deprived of the benefits. The Boya community is forward economically and also socially, he said. He said there are 60 lakh Boyas in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The STs are provided with just 6 per cent reservations even though they constitute 12 per cent of the population The organisation has called for a Chalo Delhi in January against the government’s decision.
